Julian Young (Senior Partner) LL.B. (Hons.), M.B.A., M.C.M.I
The Senior Partner is Julian Young who qualified as a Solicitor in 1977. He is an experienced Duty Solicitor and Solicitor-Advocate with Higher Rights of Audience in Criminal Proceedings.
He also holds a Masters in Business Administration (one of the first Solicitors in the country to attain this qualification) and is also a committee member of the Association of Military Court Advocates.(AMCA)
Julian is frequently asked to comment on current legal matters for national and international television and radio broadcasts as well as newspapers.
In 2010 Julian gave lectures at Harvard Law School, Boston College of Law, Boston, Maine, Cambridge and Oxford Universities and the New England School of Law.
This year he and Judy Ramjeet gave the key note speech for the UK Innocence Project at their Spring Conference .
Julian has also appeared in the Court of Appeal [Criminal Division] on a number of occasions representing appellants, the most notable of which is the case of Sean Hodgson in March 2009 when his 27 year conviction for murder was quashed.
Notable Crown Court Cases
R v Patrick Smith & Others: Central Criminal Court
Julian Young was the Solicitor Advocate representing the second defendant in this case and Judy Ramjeet was the Solicitor. This case was the longest murder trial to have run at the Old Bailey, involving the kidnap and disappearance of television personality Mark Levy, whose body has never been found (2001-2002).
R v P Central Criminal Court:
One of the first guilty pleas to murder under the new sentencing regime of the CJA (Criminal Justice Act) 2003 - Julian Young represented the defendent from the Police Station right up to his guilty plea at the Old Bailey (where he acted as his Solicitor Advocate). A tariff of 12 years was imposed which was then the lowest tariff under the new Act.
He was nominated ‘Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year’ in 2010 and has been given 5 stars and graded as ‘outstanding’ by the Good Lawyer Guide.
He has been the President of the West London Law Society on three occasions and has been on the committee for in excess of 20 years.
Julian has also been cited in the Law Society Gazette on two occasions. He is a member of Legal Service Commission London Area Costs Committee and London Regional Committee.
He deals with cases from police station to Magistrates’ Court, Youth Court, Crown Court and Court of Appeal.
Julian has also prepared the defence case of a defendant in one of the longest fraud cases at the Central Criminal Court, as well as other serious fraud, homicide and high profile cases. For more information please view his blog.
